Photography on Skye

Home to some of the most rugged and dramatic scenery in the British Isles, the remote Isle of Skye is an awe-inspiring place to visit, especially for a photographer!

With the guidance of an expert photographer, you'll journey through the highlands and lochs of the Scottish mainland to the four corners of the island in search of the most spectacular and magical landscapes it has to offer.

Skye and Western Scotland are home to mountains on a scale incomparable with anywhere else in the British Isles. Here nature reigns supreme, dwarfing the rugged buildings, colourful fishing boats and hardy hikers that punctuate the landscape. On this trip we'll take in the most iconic geological marvels, like the Old Man of Storr, as well as the rugged and remote ends of the island peninsulars. We'll get out on the water (weather permitting) on a boat trip, and learn how one of Skye's most famous exports is produced at the Talisker distillery. In the evenings, we'll hunker down in the cosy pubs and restaurants of Portree and swap stories from the day over the best local food and drink.

First there's the genuinely epic nature of the subjects on offer. Then there's the quality of light at these northern latitudes, which makes for great pictures at any time of day. And there's also the weather- Skye's notoriously changeable weather means we're sure of a constantly changing scene in the air as well as the land. Being a Frui Holiday, there'll be an expert tutor on hand to provide tips and inspiration wherever you go, and to curate a slideshow of the best images in the evenings so you can learn from your fellow snappers!
