Gastronomy in Emilia Romagna

Everything you have ever known and loved about Italian food comes together in Emilia-Romagna. It is the epicentre of traditional, mouth-watering culinary excellence.

Introduction

The name Emilia-Romagna is a legacy of Ancient Rome. Emilia is derived from the Via Aemilia, the Roman road connecting Rome to northern Italy.  Today it is still a relatively unknown and unexplored part of Italy, especially considering it’s one of the wealthiest and most developed regions in Europe!

This Romanesque, renaissance region is home to some of Europe's finest culinary delights - products so famous that their names are known all around the world: Prosciutto crudo from Parma, aceto balsamico from Modena, the black truffle of Frageno, the porcini of Borgotaro, parmesan and of course, tagliatelle ragu, a classic comfort food from Bologna. Lasagne, tortellini, cannelloni also all have their roots in Emilia Romagna - what a remarkable culinary triumph for an area only half the size of Yorkshire!

Why Cook Here?

On this trip we'll explore the best of Italian gastronomy in Emilia-Romagna. You will visit producers of some of the local ingredients, make your own ragu sauce in the traditional way, bake your own oven-fired pizza and compliment these tastes with intense ruby red and aromatic white wines from the cellars of the Colli di Parma, created in the vineyards of the Parma foothills.

What makes this trip special?

Well to start this is the birthplace of such culinary treasures as home-made stuffed pastas, ragù alla Bolognese and some of the most delicious exports of Italy.  It’s also a stunningly beautiful region full of gently rolling hills covered in vines and untouched medieval towns.

Known by Italians as one of the country’s gastronomic heartlands, Emilia Romagna will delight you with its authentic atmosphere, rich lifestyle, and exceptional cuisine.
