A typical itinerary for our gastronomy holiday in Kerala

Day 1

Highlights inc: A grand welcome, presentation of garlands, arriving in the tranquil backwaters paradise, an evening feast 

  • Arrival at Cochin Airport and meet your guide 
  • Transfer to the tranquil lakeside village of Kumarakom
  • Relaxing afternoon by the hotel's pool and/or exploring nearby villages
  • Sundowners and early evening introduction to cooking styles and ingredients 

Day 2

Highlights inc: Visit to a farm, learn about the traditional southern Indian farming techniques, cooking class to learn some traditional Keralan dishes, lakeside sunset drinks

  • After a traditional breakfast we visit Philip Kutty's Farm, a small island homestead
  • Cooking class on the farm to learn the secrets of traditional Christian dishes in the backwaters region, including prawn and duck curry and vegetable mezhukupuratti 
  • For lunch we enjoy the delights of our morning’s efforts
  • Return to the tranquillity of our hotel
  • Sunset drinks overlooking the glassy waters of Lake Vembanadu followed by dinner

Day 3

Highlights inc: Village walk, cooking class in a 140 years old traditional homestay, a captivating backwater cruise in a traditional houseboat with cooking demonstration

  • After the breakfast, we will have a short village walk around the canal system, paddy fields, watch various birds and visit a school and temple.  
  • This walk will end at a heritage home where we will have a cooking lesson about traditional vegetarian dishes which will then form our lunch served on a banana leaf!
  • After the lunch we will go for a backwater boat cruise by a houseboat
  • We will also enjoy our evening snacks with tea/coffee in the houseboat
  • Evening cooking demo in the houseboat and enjoy our dinner in the boat
  • Then return back to our hotel 

Day 4

Highlights inc: Transfer to Munnar, cooking class in plantation house, afternoon exploring tea plantations, relaxing evening at hotel

  • This morning we transfer to Munnar 
  • On route cooking class & lunch in a plantation home.  After the lunch they can also enjoy the plantation visit and watch different activities such as rubber tapping
  • A relaxing afternoon enjoying the epic scenery and fresh air
  • An early evening stroll around Munnar town followed by drinks and dinner at a local restaurant

Day 5

Highlights inc: Optional sunset Jeep safari, explore a 100 year old fully operational tea factory (the highest organic factory in India!), cooking class at a local homestay

  • For those who would like an adventure, this morning there is the chance to join a Jeep safari high into the tea plantations over Munnar (a bumpy ride, but highly recommended!)
  • Private tour around an isolated 100 year old tea factory full of old world charm
  • Cooking class at a local homestay restaurant followed by lunch
  • A chance to explore the landscape further 
  • Dinner will be a chance to experience how the locals eat at a restaurant in Munnar town 

 

Day 6

Highlights inc: Transfer to Fort Cochin, staying in a boutique waterfront hotel, on route cooking lessons & lunch at an ancestral house, dinner and drinks at the world famous Brunton Boatyard restaurant

  • This morning we transfer to Cochin and check in to Fort House Hotel
  • On route we make a stop for a cooking class & lunch in an ancestral home
  • At 6pm we walk across the road to watch a traditional Kathakali dance performance
  • Dinner will be a fusion feast at the world renowned Brunton Boatyard hotel

Day 7

Highlights inc: Explore Cochin’s heritage quarter, experience the bustling spice market, a north Indian cooking class followed by final farewell feast

  • This morning we visit Cochin’s heritage quarter to explore the lively spice markets and chance for shopping 
  • Waterside lunch at Hotel Fort House
  • Relaxing afternoon and the chance to go shopping or take advantage of ayurveda treatments
  • Late afternoon we go for our final cooking class in a local’s home. This offers a wonderful behind the scenes insight of Keralan home life. Here we will learn the secrets of north Indian cooking followed by a satisfying farewell feast around the kitchen table. 

Day 8 

This final day's schedule depends on the groups departure times.
