Portrait Drawing for Beginners
We aim to take the fear out drawing faces! Our wonderful tutors will teach you all the best tricks and techniques to help you to really get to grips with the wonderful world of portraits
The basic principles of drawing faces and portraits will unfold as we spend the day in the inspiring setting of the National Portrait Gallery (please Note that from 29 June the NPG will be closing for essential works, but no worries, we will be drawing portraits at the V&A instead), sketching the marble busts and statues of historical figures. You will learn the techniques in portrait drawing, utilising line, tone and proportion, explained simply by your tutor who will guide you step by step as you gain more confidence.
We’ll use a variety of materials to explore portraits in a range of styles - with fun quick studies in an impressionistic way and then longer studies using guidelines and measurements to make more realistic drawings.
But it’s not all work, work, work, as this is a Frui day course after all! We’ll also enjoy a lovely lunch break (either your own packed lunch or bought from the cafe) and have a truly fun, inspiring and sociable day together consisting of beautiful surroundings and jargon-free, down to earth tuition.
